Special Guest – Chuck Carter

Greetings all, and a special welcome to any Obduction backers who are looking at Mysterium for the first time.

Special Guest

Today, we are happy to announce that we will have a special guest at Mysterium 2016: Chuck Carter will be joining us on Friday and Saturday to talk about his work and generally to hang out with the fans.

ChuckProfile

Chuck, along with Robyn Miller, created the artwork that brought the worlds of Myst to life. After Myst, he worked on a number of other games, including a number of titles at Westwood Studios. He has created artwork for TV shows like Babylon 5, Crusade, and Mortal Kombat Krusades, as well as for motion rides like “Star Trek: The Experience” and Disney’s “Mission to Mars”.

Today, he is the Founder and Creative Director for indie studio Eagre Games, working on their first game, Zed. I gave Zed a try at Pax East last weekend. Trust me, if you liked Myst you’re going to like Zed.

We are very excited to have Chuck joining us. This is going to be a Mysterium you don’t want to miss!

Cyan

We are also happy to announce that Cyan will be involved in Mysterium in some way this year! We don’t know quite what type of involvement yet (whether it will be a video call or actual Cyan employees at the convention), but we will keep you updated as we learn more.

Deadlines

A reminder that Con Book submissions are due tomorrow, and event submissions are due this coming Monday. And don’t forget that registration is currently open!

We know many people are wondering about hotel information. We sincerely apologize for the delay in getting that to you, and we anticipate that we will be able to open hotel bookings in the first week or two of May. We are in the final steps of getting the contract signed right now.

Until next time,

-Taniith

Logos and Conbooks and Travel, Oh My!

We have a bunch of info for you today, so I’ll jump right into it:

Logos

We are happy to announce our selection for T-shirt logos. We got a number of great submissions this year, and we want to thank everyone who submitted. The logos for the shirt this year were made by Claire Hummel (aka Shoom’lah):

You can get more info about the shirts, including how attendees can purchase them, here: http://www.mysterium.net/mysterium-2016-t-shirts/

In addition to those two, there were two other submissions that we have some non-shirt ideas for. The first is from Zib Redlektab:

Zib

Zib’s gonna zib.

And the second is from Robert Barnett:

Wouldn’t this be a great poster? Or post card?

Travel Info

We are still finalizing hotel details, but we’ve prepared information about getting to and around Salt Lake City. You can find that here: http://www.mysterium.net/location/. That page will be updated over time, so be sure to check back again closer to the convention.

Convention Books

As always, we will have a souvenir convention book for attendees who buy an early-bird registration this year. The conbook is a showcase of the amazing creativity of the fandom. If you write, or paint, or knit, or do anything other creative work related to Myst and Cyan’s other games, please share it with the rest of us! Conbook submissions will be taken until April 29th. You can find out more details about how to submit here: http://www.mysterium.net/convention-book/

Until next time!

Mysterium 2016 Location Announcement

Back in August, we told you the dates for Mysterium 2016, but not the location. This goes against our usual policy of announcing both at Closing Ceremonies, but unfortunately there were some logistical issues we had to work out before we could announce. But now those are settled, and I am happy to announce that Mysterium 2016 will take place in:

Salt Lake City, Utah – August 5-7 2016

That’s right, we’re taking Mysterium to a new city! It should be an exciting year, and we hope you can join us.

That just about wraps up my tenure as 2015 con chair. It has been a pleasure chairing for you (yes, it’s a verb…). Thank you for helping to make Mysterium 2015 such a great success.

Hotel Reservation Deadline

This is just a friendly reminder to BOOK YOUR HOTEL ROOM if you haven’t already done so. You must make your reservation by July 7th (next Tuesday) to get our group rate. You can get all the hotel info on our Location Page.

Remember, we also have a forum setup for those of you that would like to arrange room (and ride) sharing. You can find the forum here.

Travel Info, Room Sharing, & More

Greetings All,

I have a handful of things to share with you today.

Registration, Shirts, and Hotel Rooms

Early bird registration has ended, which means that t-shirt pre-orders have also ended. You can still register online until July 24th. There will be a limited supply of t-shirts available for purchase on-site, for those that missed the cutoff date.

On a related note, when I last spoke to the hotel on Monday, we were within two rooms of hitting our initial room-block reservation. I don’t know how much space the hotel has available beyond that, so I would recommend booking your hotel rooms soon, if you haven already done so.

Travel Info

We have added a page that explains several options for getting to the Mysterium hotel from various starting locations. You can check it out here. That leads into…

Room & Ride Share Forums

The forums have returned (after a bit of database wrangling)! You can use the forums to find roommates to lower the cost of a hotel room, and for coordinating ride sharing on the way to the convention. I’ve pinned a post to the top of each sub-forum with directions on how to get the most out of them.

Submission Reminders

A few quick reminders:

If you were planning to submit an event/panel idea, now is the time! Submissions close at the end of this week, on June 19th. You can get all the details here.

Paper People submissions are still open. You can get the details from this post.

Finally, we are still looking for some kind souls to donate items for prizes. If you have any ideas, please drop us a line at info@mysterium.net.

The End

We’re getting very close now! Under two months to go. Next time, I hope to have a little teaser of something we’ve code named Escape the Age to show you. But until then,

-Taniith, Mysterium 2015 Chair
