Mysterium will be in a hotel, not on top of a mountain
Greetings from your Mysterium 2022 chair! You’ve probably seen my name on some blog posts and announcements over the past few years, and I’m looking forward to welcoming you all to Denver next summer! That said, we have quite a bit to announce regarding next year’s event.
This is probably the information you all are most looking for. We can officially announce Mysterium 2022 will be August 12-14, so feel free to start planning! We will be returning to our traditional in-person schedule with events being most of the day Friday and Saturday and ending around noon on Sunday.
Theme and T-shirt designs
Mysterium 2022’s theme will be based around Myst III: Exile, celebrating its 21st birthday next year (so buy it a beer while you’re in town!) with a particular emphasis on Voltaic (think Colorado’s red rock and canyons). With that we are also opening submissions for t-shirt designs. If you’re looking for ideas, aside from this year’s theme, Colorado is particularly famous for its mountains. We will also favorably look upon any design incorporating Blucifer, Denver International Airport’s demon horse sculpture. See our submissions page for more information.
Thank you to everyone who filled out the Mysterium 2021 survey. We hope you all like the more streamlined format relative to previous years. A few recurring items we noticed:
Rand Miller’s let’s play was really popular. We can see if he’d be up for doing something like this again, as well as adding Robyn to the party!
People appreciate the opportunity online activities give when it’s impossible to be physically present. Going forward we will look into some hybrid events that are held both in-person and online.
Back-to-back panels are tiring. When we run panels in the future we’ll plan for short breaks between them.
We additionally received several survey responses asking for an update on Starry Expanse. While Mysterium provides a platform for announcements, we cannot guarantee regular presentations or updates on specific topics. Future updates regarding Starry Expanse are solely at Cyan’s discretion.
We’ll have plenty more to share in the coming months, including more details about next year and additional participation opportunities.
Hello everyone! We hope you’re all having a promising start to the new year. Let’s kick things off with some announcements.
Hotel room booking is now available at our selected venue, the Westin Alexandria Old Town. Rooms are available for $100/night with included wireless internet and discounted parking. For more information about the hotel and the booking link, please head to our Location page.
Mysterium 2022 Location Bids
Mysterium is made possible by local efforts every year. Want us to visit your favorite city? Send us a location bid! Bids for Mysterium 2022 will be accepted through April 1st, 2021. For more information, including sample bids from previous years, visit our Location Bidding page.

Rollover registration emails were sent in early December. If you have questions, or did not receive one, please feel free to contact us through our Contact page.
Thank you all for joining us as we start 2021. We look forward to bringing you more exciting announcements over the coming months.
– The Mysterium 2021 Triumvirate: Capella, Dan, and Drew
We are excited to announce that registration and hotel reservations are now open! As is tradition, with registration also comes the announcement of this year’s t-shirt design. We’re so excited to share what the community created this year, so let’s get right to it.
In the front of this year’s shirt, we have a depiction of the Jefferson Memorial superimposed on the Tomahna book vault. This eye-catching design was created by Katherine “Squee” White.
We’re so excited to have both of these designs for our shirts this year. For more information, please see our T-Shirts page. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who submitted T-shirt artwork this year. Even if your design was not selected, we hope to feature your work elsewhere during Mysterium.
This year, Mysterium will take place at the Westin Alexandria Old Town in Alexandria, VA. Located just a few minutes walk from Alexandria and King Street stations, this hotel offers easy access to downtown Alexandria and Washington, D.C. proper. We’ve secured a rate of $100/night for both single and double rooms.
For more information about our hotel, including links to make your reservation, visit our updated Location page.
Mysterium 2020 registration is now open! From now until May 31st, you can purchase a weekend registration for $25, or a premium registration (weekend + shirt) for $40. That’s a $5 discount off of the individual items! Starting June 1st, the price will increase and shirts will not be available for pre-order.
We have once again included a space for you to indicate your pronouns on your badge, should you wish. Read more and register today over on our Registration page.
As a reminder, we are still accepting submissions for events, enamel pins, activity book pages, as well as writing and artwork. The deadline for pin design submissions is right around the corner on March 15th, so be sure to send your ideas in. All information about submissions can be found on the Submissions page.
New Submission Rights Policy
With Cyan’s help, we have written a new licensing/copyright policy for all submitted works (logos, pin designs, etc). Previously, all works submitted to Mysterium became the property of Cyan Worlds Inc. Going forward you will retain copyright of your own work, but grant Cyan and FMG/Mysterium a perpetual license to it. For the complete details and legalese, see the Submissions section on our Policies page. This applies immediately to all future submissions, and retroactively to all pin design and activity book submissions for Mysterium 2020.
It’s hard to believe that Mysterium is just around the corner! We’ll have more updates for you all soon.
– Mysterium 2020 Triumvirate: Capella, Drew, and Dan
A new month has arrived and with it comes news about Mysterium 2020! The committee has been hard at work since we last updated, so we’re excited to share the latest with all of you.
When is Mysterium 2020?
This year, in an effort to maximize our hotel options and keep Mysterium accessible and fun for everyone, we broke with our tradition of holding Mysterium on a fixed weekend. After reviewing numerous proposals, we can now say that Mysterium 2020 will be held August 7th – 9th, 2020!
We are still in final negotiations and expect to have information about our selected venue soon. Please look forward to an update on this in the coming weeks.
For the Brothers
In all of our years, we have yet to theme our weekend around anything from Myst IV: Revelation. The Committee felt that it was a perfect time to break that pattern and select Haven and Spire as our theme. Red and blue, Sirrus and Achenar, crystals and mangrees… we hope to have a bit of everything brotherly represented this year. Two of our Committee members, Rayne and Lutra, have already started planning some decorations and music to help set the mood. We’re excited to see what they can come up with!
Relive Mysterium 2019
Missing Mysterium 2019? Or perhaps you missed Mysterium 2019? We’re excited to announce that this year’s event recordings are now available on our YouTube channel. We want to give a huge shoutout to Taniith for his hard work sifting through the hundreds of gigabytes of footage we collected this year. We hope you enjoy! You can find a playlist of all the videos here.
Additionally, we’ve gathered song lyrics and poems from Open Mic Night for you to read at your leisure here. Many thanks to everyone who participated in the event this year.
We are excited to announce that registration and hotel reservations are now open! First, though, we want to show you the winning logo submissions for this year’s t-shirts.
Above we have our lovely front logo, made by Xemylixa. Below we have our awesome back logo, by calumTraveler.
We love both of these logos, and we think they’ll look beautiful on the shirts. You can get more information about the shirts on our T-Shirt page.
This year, Mysterium will take place at the Ruby River Hotel in downtown Spokane. This hotel is in walking distance of the downtown core and Riverfront Park, and overlooks the Spokane River. We’ve secured a rate of $119/night for one-bed rooms, and $129/night for two-bed rooms (plus tax).
To book your room, and for more information about the hotel and surrounding area, please see our Location page.
In addition to hotel reservations, Mysterium registration is now open! From now until June 1st, you can purchase a weekend registration for $35, or a premium registration (weekend + shirt + coloring book) for $60. That’s a $5 discount off of the individual items! After June 1st, the price will increase and shirts/books will not be available.
We are also introducing a space for personal pronouns on our badges this year. We’ve heard attendees ask for it over the past few years; in the interest of creating the most welcoming and enjoyable environment we can, we decided it was time to introduce the option. Adding pronouns to your badge will be 100% optional, but all staff badges will include them.
We made the decision to raise registration prices by $10 this year, and we want to be fully transparent about why. As described in our FAQ, registration prices go towards the cost of renting the hotel space, equipment rentals, swag, and convention expenses. Unfortunately, the cost of hotel space, especially in popular cities, has been increasing quickly in recent years. In addition, this year we have invited quite a few special guests, and part of the registration increase will go towards offsetting their travel costs. Please get in touch with us if you have any questions about registration.
Remember to submit any event/panel/activity ideas using our submissions form! Also, be sure to join in the Mass Mysteria city planning discussions on our discord – details here.
We expect to have a very exciting special guest announcement in a few weeks.
