Mysterium Online

If you’re at home and want to participate in some virtual activities during Mysterium, we have a couple of options for you!
One is by visiting our Downloadables page where we post puzzle packets and activity books, there are some 3D models if you have a printer, that sort of thing.
We also recommend diving into the Cavern in Myst Online Uru Live.
The dedicated folks over at the Open Uru development team work hard to keep the Cavern alive and well, and during Mysterium, even add a convention space! You can explore with friends, participate in Marker Missions, there’s a lot of content there.

Getting into the Cavern

If you are new to Uru, the first thing you’ll need to do is to get your KI, which Uru uses to both track your progress and allow you to chat with others.

  1. Download and install Myst Online Uru Live: https://mystonline.com/en/
  2. Create an account. If you’re having technical difficulties with this part of the process, please connect to Cyan’s official discord server. There’s a channel called #moula-tech-support which is exactly what that’s there for.
  3. Log in and create an new explorer (aka an avatar).
    1. If you are interested in the Uru story, start in the Cleft – you will reach the small island of Relto after you solve the mysteries of the Cleft.
    2. If you want to skip ahead, you can start directly on your Relto.
  4. Once you have reached Relto:
    1. Open the door to the library and go inside.
    2. Select the first book on the top shelf (if you are a new explorer, this is your only book), which will link you to Bevin.
    3. Walk over the bridge to your left, following the sign for the Classroom.
    4. Just past the bridge, there will be an open room on the right with a few linking books. The one against the wall on the back left will lead you to Gahreesen.
  5. Follow the posted signs in Gahreesen to get your KI. The dispensing machine has a circular blue symbol on it, and the KI itself is a watch-like device on your left hand.

Getting to the Mysterium Room

The Open Uru team has built a con room in the Cavern, inside the New Messenger’s Pub. Here’s how to reach it:
  1. Once you have a KI, find a book that links to the Nexus. There is a book to the left of the KI dispenser in Gahreesen. There is also one in Bevin, in the center of the book room.
    1. Once you have used any Nexus book, a copy will be added to your Relto library as the second book from the left.
  2. Inside the Nexus, walk forward and interact with the machine. It will show you a list of the cavern locations and Ages you are currently authorized to access.
  3. Under City Locations, select The Watcher’s Pub, then push the top button to access the book.
  4. Inside the Watcher’s Pub, you will find a book to Chiso Prenev directly behind you on the center pedestal. This leads you to all the Ages that have been developed by the Open Uru team.
    1. As a shortcut, you can grab a book from the boxes to the right to access Chiso Prenev right from your Relto shelf.
  5. Inside Chiso, the New Messenger’s Pub book is up the stairs and to the left.
    1. Once inside the New Messenger’s Pub, turn around to find a book back to the Nexus. If you insert your hand into the slot to the left of the book, you can now access the Pub directly from the Nexus under City Locations.
  6. The Mysterium con room on the upper level!

Uru Marker Missions

We will be hosting a custom marker mission in Myst Online Uru Live this year, and this page will tell you what you need to know to participate.
A couple of notes about marker hiding places:
  • All markers in both missions can be found alone. No markers will be hidden in areas locked behind multiplayer puzzles.
  • No markers will be hidden in unreachable areas. No “suicide markers” (i.e. markers requiring jumping off a cliff to attempt to reach them).

How to Calibrate Your KI

Before doing custom marker missions, you will need to calibrate your KI. We have put together a YouTube video of how to do it, found here: https://youtu.be/Wi2TV0iSdpQ
Alternatively, below are step by step instructions on how to accomplish this.
  1. Link back to Relto (you can find the book by moving your cursor to the lower left of your screen)
  2. Go back to Bevin, in the same room where you round the Gahreesen book.
  3. Two books to the right of the Gahreesen linking book is a book that links to The Great Zero.
  4. Once in The Great Zero, turn around, and place your KI in the gizmo you’ll find. That will give you 15 green marker lights to find.
  5. Turn around, and you’ll find your first one.
    1. Approach the marker, and when you’re close enough, your KI will blink.
    2. Hit F2 to bring up your KI, and there will be a blinking red circle.
    3. Click the red circle to calibrate your KI to that marker.
    4. One of the green marker lights on your KI will light up.
  6. Once you have that first marker, link back to Relto.
  7. Link back to Bevin.
  8. Run around Bevin to find a couple of markers. There should be 3-4 markers around Bevin.
  9. Go back into the room where the Linking Books are, there will be a Bahro Stone that links to D’ni proper.
  10. Link to D’ni. In that same room is a book leading to Nexus (looks a bit like a gear). You can also use that book to link to the public instance of D’ni. You’ll need Nexus later.
  11. Run around and find the rest of your green markers.
  12. Once you have 15 green markers
    1. Link back to Relto
    2. Go to your shelf, and open the book to Dni
    3. Click the pages to find the linking page to The Great Zero
    4. Link to the Great Zero
  13. Turn around, insert your KI into the gizmo. It’ll turn in your green markers, and give you 15 red ones to go find.
  14. Go back to D’ni.
  15. Find more markers.
    1. Some of them will be trickier than others to find.
    2. Explore every nook and cranny.
    3. You’ll probably need to unlock your Pillar Ages (found at the beginning of the YouTube video). The Ages themselves don’t have markers but have Bahro stones.
    4. You’ll find other Bahro stones around, which will lead you to balconies and other hidden areas around D’ni. These areas often have markers.
  16. Once you have 15 red markers,
    1. Link back to Relto
    2. Link back to The Great Zero
    3. Turn around
    4. Insert your KI into the gizmo to turn in your red markers
  17. Tadaa! Your KI is now calibrated and ready to go for the custom marker missions!

Begin the Marker Mission

When you’re ready to participate in the custom marker missions, there’s one more step you’ll need to do. Again, there is a YouTube video to guide you through this process (https://youtu.be/5V5Q4UhLoIk), or you can simply follow the directions below.
  1. Open your KI
  2. Click the Buddies button on the left side
  3. Add Mir-O-Bot to your Buddies list: KI number 32319.
    • Note: If Mir-O-Bot is offline, the backup plan is to add MinBot to your Buddies list. KI number 9292763
  4. You’ll need to send Mir-O-Bot the following message:
    sendme 13619542
  5. Mir-O-Bot will then send you a custom marker mission for that number!
  6. Check your KI under “Incoming” and you should have a new message with the marker mission.
    1. In that message is a “Play” button and a grayed out “Edit” button.
    2. Once you hit the “Play” button, a “Stop” button and “Reset” button will also appear there.
  7. The missions both start in Tokotah Plaza in D’ni proper, so gather there when we’re ready to roll.
    1. To accomplish this, start from Relto.
    2. Link to Nexus.
    3. In Nexus, link to Ferry Terminal. There are others, if you have already found them, but if it’s your first time in there, Ferry Terminal will be on the list.
    4. This will place you in the public instance of D’ni.
    5. Turn around.
    6. Run up the stairs.
    7. You’ll find the Tokotah Plaza at the top of the stairs.
    8. Go towards the tent with tables and the map of the city. The party will begin there!
  8. If you have questions when we’re ready to launch, feel free to reach out to Mysterium staff on the Mysterium Discord server
