Mysterium Discord

Shorah All!

I am excited to announce a couple of things that we’ve been planning for a while now. The first is an official Mysterium Discord server!

If you are unfamiliar with Discord, it is a powerful free chat system that has been gaining popularity in the past few years. Think of it like IRC or Slack, with a combination of private messages and semi-public chat rooms. Discord has very nice clients for mobile, desktop, and browser use, so there’s an option for just about everyone.

Why are we starting a Discord? Several reasons. First, to give us a more central location for things like room-and-ride share posts and public Mysterium planning discussions. Second, to help fill the gap left by CyanChat. Back in the day, CyanChat was often used by on-site attendees to talk to those who couldn’t make it, and to help people stay in touch between conventions.

More generally, given how fractured the Myst/Cyan community has become, and how many people use Discord these days, we felt it could be worthwhile to provide a new space for realtime discussion by the fandom. Who knows? We may even convince past and present Cyan members to join in the chat!

If you are interested in joining the Mysterium Discord server, please follow this link: https://discord.gg/xXvSA7E

Secondly, I wanted to point out some changes to folks who may not have directly visited our site recently. Earlier this year we switched web hosts and took the opportunity to start renovating the site. You should find the new site much quicker to load, and *much* more mobile friendly. Also, we hope you enjoy the new header artwork by the wonderful Kelly Coston!

Expect more changes as we get closer to this year’s Mysterium. We hope to update the site to be a quick and intuitive place to get all the info you need about Mysterium.

That’s all I have for now. As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments. And I hope to see you in Discord!

Art Submission Reminders

Greetings All

First, a quick update on the hotel and registration: We’re still working on nailing everything down, but we expect to have everything done and ready for registration to open by the end of this month. Stay tuned here and on social media for that announcement.

This post is mainly to remind you of the deadlines for our two art contests. Due to a lack of entries, we have decided to push back the Room Art Contest deadline to match the Logo Contest deadline, which is February 23rd!

As always, we can’t make Mysterium work without you, the fans. So if you have a cool idea for a logo, please submit it. Who knows, it could end up on this year’s shirts!

Until next time,

Mysterium 2018 PR Team

Now Accepting Submissions!

Hello Mysterium attendees and friends!

With 2017 drawing to a close, we are excited to open up the submissions period for Mysterium 2018! In addition to the logo contest, we are seeking two other types of submissions:

Room Art

Since 2017, we’ve been incorporating posters, decorations, and other artwork from our talented community as decorations for the con room. We’d love to see what folks can create with this year’s theme of Sounds of the Ages. With fewer requirements than the logo contest, this is an excellent opportunity to let the ideas flow and demonstrate your skills to the community. Submissions are due by February 9th, 2018. For more information, check out the Room Art Submissions page.

Events

Mysterium can’t happen without the ideas of our community. If you’re interested in running an activity, panel, or presentation, we encourage you to submit your ideas by June 8th, 2018! Detailed submission instructions can be found on the Events page. We can’t wait to see your ideas!

That’s all we have for today. We’ll have some more updates to share in the coming weeks. Until then, the Committee wishes you all the best in 2018!

Mysterium 2018: St. Louis, MO

!Shorah tishmahtee

As announced this past year in Orlando, we are excited to be hosting Mysterium 2018 in The Gateway City, St. Louis, Missouri from August 3rd-5th, 2018!

The Theme

Continuing with the trend from last year, we have chosen not to have a specific Age as our theme. This year, our theme will be: Sounds of the Ages.

Logo Contest

With our theme announced, we are officially opening our Logo Contest! We encourage you to integrate this theme, along with inspiration from any Cyan game, in your designs. You can submit designs for the front and/or back of our shirts. More information about the design requirements and submission process can be found on the Logo Contest page. Submissions are due by by Friday, February 23rd.

Who’s running this show?

An excellent question! This year, the Mysterium Committee is being co-chaired by Odo and Drea!

If you’ve attended sometime in the last ten years, you might know him as “That Fellow Behind the Reg Table.” Odo has an extensive history of coordinating our location and liaising with the hotel events manager. As someone who has spent time working in St. Louis previously, he is excited to make Mysterium a reality in the Gateway to the West.

Drea has been our unofficial official puzzle maker for many years. A long-standing attendee and Committee member, Drea is always full of ideas for making Mysterium a fun and engaging experience for everyone.

We’ve already begun planning some exciting events and excursions that we hope to share with you all soon! That’s all we have for now. We should have some more information ready to announce in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Mysterium 2017 Wrap-Up

Shorah all!

It’s been two weeks since Mysterium, and wow, I already miss you all. Is it 2018 yet?

Some wrap-up notes:

We’re looking to make a photo roundup available. If you’ve got any photographs from this year, please shoot committee an email with a link to it. We’ll be including a link to the Flickr group if you’d like to share photos there.

Please note: If you’re linking us to a photo album on Facebook or Google+ or other social media, please make sure it’s not set to friends-only viewing! Otherwise there will be lots of people who can’t see them.

For those of you looking for video, we’re working on it. We’ll make a post when that’s available.

I think 2017 was a lovely Mysterium. We had some really awesome events, and a gorgeous hotel. Mysterium’s heart has always been its attendees, and so I’d like to issue a final thanks to all of you who attended and made this a magical time. I’d also like to thank the stream viewers for tuning into us even though you couldn’t be here.

Thanks again, from the bottom of my heart,

Capella
