Art Submission Reminders

Greetings All

First, a quick update on the hotel and registration: We’re still working on nailing everything down, but we expect to have everything done and ready for registration to open by the end of this month. Stay tuned here and on social media for that announcement.

This post is mainly to remind you of the deadlines for our two art contests. Due to a lack of entries, we have decided to push back the Room Art Contest deadline to match the Logo Contest deadline, which is February 23rd!

As always, we can’t make Mysterium work without you, the fans. So if you have a cool idea for a logo, please submit it. Who knows, it could end up on this year’s shirts!

Until next time,

Mysterium 2018 PR Team

Now Accepting Submissions!

Hello Mysterium attendees and friends!

With 2017 drawing to a close, we are excited to open up the submissions period for Mysterium 2018! In addition to the logo contest, we are seeking two other types of submissions:

Room Art

Since 2017, we’ve been incorporating posters, decorations, and other artwork from our talented community as decorations for the con room. We’d love to see what folks can create with this year’s theme of Sounds of the Ages. With fewer requirements than the logo contest, this is an excellent opportunity to let the ideas flow and demonstrate your skills to the community. Submissions are due by February 9th, 2018. For more information, check out the Room Art Submissions page.

Events

Mysterium can’t happen without the ideas of our community. If you’re interested in running an activity, panel, or presentation, we encourage you to submit your ideas by June 8th, 2018! Detailed submission instructions can be found on the Events page. We can’t wait to see your ideas!

That’s all we have for today. We’ll have some more updates to share in the coming weeks. Until then, the Committee wishes you all the best in 2018!

Schedule & Escape Rooms

Greetings!

Can you believe that 3 Fridays from now, we’ll be at Mysterium?

The closer it gets to Mysterium, the more I get asked “So what’s happening at Mysterium?” Sometimes people want the specific schedule, and sometimes people just want to know the kind of events we run. Today, I’m excited to announce the completed schedule. You can check it out here!

You can also check out the schedule in more detail, including event descriptions, via our Guidebook at https://guidebook.com/guide/100590/schedule/#date/08-04-2017.

Just looking at the schedule is making me excited. Mysterium is so close, and I can’t wait to see you all there.

Escape Rooms

Just like last year, we have partnered with a local escape room business to book several rooms for attendees. It’s even easier this year, because the escape rooms are just across the street from the Mysterium hotel! Tickets are limited, and we expect them to go quickly, so don’t wait to get yours over at the registration page.

And remember, if you haven’t registered yet, pre-registration closes in just a week!

Cyan and More

As a reminder, Cyan will be streaming a live Q&A at Mysterium. If you have a question you’d like to ask them, you can submit it here: https://goo.gl/forms/xGBKW3x5gVDFSn7G3.

And now, here’s the list of what Drew is most looking forward to in Orlando:

  • Traveling the furthest South I’ve ever been
  • Seeing the WWAB creations
  • Catching up with attendees
  • Pool time
  • Getting a sneak preview of Cyan’s new home decor product line that’s supposed to be so stunning, it’ll make your guests feel like they’ve been transported to another world.

Cyan Q&A

Greetings All!

This year at Mysterium, we’ll be having a live Q&A stream with members of Cyan’s Obduction team, and that means we need questions for them! So if you have a burning question you’ve been longing to ask Cyan, now is your chance. Just follow this link and fill out the form: https://goo.gl/forms/xGBKW3x5gVDFSn7G3

You can submit as many questions as you want, and all topics are welcome. That said, the main focus of the Q&A will be on a post-mortem of Obduction’s development so far, so we’re especially looking for Obduction related questions.

Questions will be accepted until Sunday, July 23rd.

Registration and Hotel

Quick reminder that registration will remain open until next Friday, July 21st. Also, if you still need a hotel room and haven’t booked one yet, we may be able to get you a room at our convention rate. Please see here for details: https://www.mysterium.net/location/#hotel

Other Bits

If you are planning to visit any of Disney’s parks while you’re in Orlando, I highly recommend getting your tickets now so that you can sign up for Disney’s FastPass service. It’s free, and it lets you skip the line at popular rides, but the slots fill up well in advance!

Finally, continuing our showcase of what committee members are most looking forward to in Orlando, here’s mine:

  • Way too much sugar at this place across the street from the hotel (https://sugarfactory.com/location/orlando/)
  • Seeing my Myst family
  • Fancy afternoon tea at a fancy Disney hotel
  • Defending Esher and Myst V to anyone and everyone! … as usual

Stay tuned for more info later this week!

Mysterium Events Preview

While we put together our final schedule, we wanted to take a moment to talk about a couple of events that the organizing committee is putting together.

First, we’re bringing back the Unconference. If you don’t know what that is, it’s basically a participant-driven conference where the topics of discussion are chosen by the participants. What makes it so exciting is that you never know what conversation you’ll find yourself having or who you’ll be listening or talking to. For example, one of the more interesting and lively discussions last year was about Misunderstood Villains in the Myst games. Of course, you know that debating lore is a favorite pastime at Mysterium!

And, it wouldn’t be Mysterium without our signature event: What Would Atrus Build?! Every year, Atrus needs our help to construct something out of junk and conveniently available craft supplies. Try adjusting the slider…on your hot glue gun to help your team win. But don’t take too long! Your team only has an hour to build something before you have to demonstrate how it works. Last year Atrus needed help with some kitchen equipment after a freak accident destroyed most of what he had. Who knows what Atrus will need help with this year…but you can be sure it’ll be fun!

See you real soon!
