COVID-19

We are planning to require all attendees at Mysterium 2022 to be up to date with COVID vaccinations. All policies notwithstanding, please be courteous of others. Wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, and respect others' boundaries.

2022 COVID-19 Policy FAQ

Will vaccines be required to attend Mysterium 2022?
Yes, all attendees must be up to date with COVID vaccines, meaning all attendees must have received a second dose of a two-dose vaccine, or a single dose of the Janssen-Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least two weeks prior to Mysterium (no later than July 29, 2022). This may also include a booster requirement depending on when you received your initial vaccine course:
  • The second dose of a two-dose vaccine was obtained prior to February 26, 2022
  • The single dose of the Janssen-Johnson & Johnson vaccine was obtained prior to May 29, 2022
If you are required to obtain a booster, you must receive it no later than one week prior to the beginning of Mysterium (no later than August 5). The booster is not required to be from the same manufacturer as your initial vaccine course, but you should follow CDC guidelines on booster selection.
No additional booster will be required regardless of the time a first booster was received, although a second booster is recommended if available and within CDC guidelines.

In summary, this is what you’ll need (dates refer to second dose of a two-dose vaccine or sole dose of Janssen-J&J):
Vaccine Type Date Requirements
Any accepted 2-dose vaccine – no booster On or before February 25, 2022 Booster required by August 5
On or after February 26, 2022 No booster required
Janssen-Johnson & Johnson vaccine – no booster On or before May 28, 2022 Booster required by August 5
On or after May 29, 2022 No booster required
Any 2 dose vaccine or Janssen-Johnson & Johnson – with booster Booster obtained on or before August 5, 2022 No additional booster required
Will there be any exemptions offered to the vaccination policy?

Sorry but no. If you are unable to attend due to vaccination requirements, we will be offering a number of activities online this year.

Which forms of proof of vaccination will be accepted?
  • Original, photocopy, or photograph of CDC-issued COVID vaccination card
  • Original, photocopy, or photograph of WHO-recognized international COVID vaccination card
  • Digital SMART Health Card with a QR code (e.g., from the myColorado app) – see a list of issuers here
All forms must contain your full name, the brand of vaccine received, and the date(s) of each dose. Attendees over 18 must also display a photo ID with proof of vaccination.
Will you accept CLEAR Health Pass?

No. We looked into this option, and we decided the verification charge for event organizers was not an expense we could justify.

What will be the check-in procedure this year?
Staff will be checking your vaccination card (paper or digital) before issuing badges. After you collect your badge, you can pick up your t-shirt and swag (if any). Once your information has been verified, you will not need to show your proof of vaccination again during the weekend.

If you use a digital card, please have it ready on your phone for scanning. We’d also recommend having your paper card on hand as a backup, as Mysterium will not be responsible for any technical issues.

Additionally, for anyone who registered online, we will provide the option to show proof of vaccine and pick up your badge on Thursday evening (check the schedule page for times). This will allow you to save time on Friday and skip directly to the swag/t-shirt table.
Which vaccines will be accepted?
The following CDC-recognized vaccines will be accepted:
2 doses of any of the following:
  • Pfizer-BioNTech
  • Moderna
  • AstraZeneca
  • Covaxin
  • Covishield
  • BIBP/Sinopharm
  • Sinovac
  • Novavax/Covovax
or 1 dose of the Janssen-Johnson & Johnson vaccine
Also see note above about boosters.
How will proof of vaccination be kept confidential?
We will only be asking attendees to display records at the time badges are issued. Verification will be as follows:
  • Physical vaccine cards (or photographs/photocopies thereof): The card will be visually inspected. No information will be stored.
  • SMART cards: We will use the SMART Verifier app, which prevents any information from being saved, including screenshots.
What if someone fakes their proof of vaccination?

Any attendee who forges vaccine status credentials will be ejected from Mysterium and referred to law enforcement. That person will also be permanently banned from attending any future Mysterium or other events sponsored by Falling Man Group.

Will masks be required at Mysterium 2022?
Yes. Masks will be required at all times while in the convention room. We will also enforce any federal health mandates, as well as those issued by the State of Colorado or the City and County of Denver, or any policies set by our hotel.
Acceptable masks include N95/KN95 respirators (or equivalent international standard as described here), and surgical masks. Masks must cover the nose and mouth fully. Masks must not have holes or exhalation valves. Cloth masks, gaiters, bandanas, mesh masks, costume masks, etc. are not permitted.
Will you provide masks to attendees?

Yes. While it is recommended to bring your own mask(s), we will have a supply of surgical masks available.

Am I required to wear a mask in other locations?

No. The mask policy applies only to the convention room, and not any public locations, including all other areas of the hotel, restaurants, or excursions such as Meow Wolf.

Are you offering any additional flexibility this year with registration cancellations?
We have shortened the cancellation window from the standard 90 days in advance to 45 days. Inside of 45 days, please contact us; refunds will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Note: We will be unable to refund purchases of Meow Wolf tickets after June 30 under any circumstances.
What happens if I test positive for COVID shortly before Mysterium, after the cancellation deadline?

Please do not attend. Contact us and we will arrange for a refund of your registration.

What happens if I feel sick during Mysterium?

Please notify us as soon as you suspect anything. We are not staffed to provide serious first-aid but we have resources such as a non-contact thermometer and a list of nearby medical services for use as needed. We also advise notifying the hotel front desk so they can take appropriate precautions for their staff.

If I have to cancel, will I receive a refund for my flight/train/hotel room?

For transportation, contact your carrier for their cancellation policies. Hotel rooms booked at the Mysterium rate may be canceled up until the day of arrival without penalty, after which time the fee will be equal to one night including taxes.

If I have to cancel, will I receive a refund for my Meow Wolf ticket purchase?

Meow Wolf tickets may be refunded until June 30. After that time, tickets will be nonrefundable under any circumstances.

Is it safe to attend a convention now?

This is a personal decision you will have to make. We encourage attendees to stay aware of current local infection rates and risks via the COVID-19 portal at the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment here: https://covid19.colorado.gov/

Can you guarantee I won’t catch COVID?

No. There is an inherent risk in travel as well as any large gatherings. While vaccines are effective at reducing the risk of infection and serious illness, there is still some risk of infection. Decide for yourself if you are comfortable with this risk.
