Can you take an early 1990s CD-ROM game like Myst and remake it so that it will run on an 8-bit system from the 1970s, all while fitting on a reasonable number of floppy disks?  Vince Weaver will discuss the challenges involved with getting a fully playable version of Myst working on the Apple II series of computers.

Original Myst Artist, Chuck Carter, is reworking the Selenitic Age to both update his original Myst level and add some new twists. It will contain everything that is familiar in the original version, but in this new version the maze ship is now destroyed and you'll need to navigate a strange and dynamic maze to finish the level. And while it will not be official Myst canon, it will explore new areas never imagined in the original game with added explorable places and some new things that take advantage of real time game engines - i.e. Unreal 5. The world will be alive, weird, and vibrant, and it will have original music by conductor/composer Lucas Richman. This is something Chuck has been wanting to do for years, and people will be able to follow along on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook over the next year as he begins the level building and design.

While we may not be together in person, we can still have some informal social activities, which have always been an important part of Mysterium. In addition to open discussion, we'll have two focused chats:

• Unwritten Character Workshop: Walk through and discuss creating a character for the Unwritten RPG 
• Dancing with Annacat: After sitting and watching streams all day, it's time to get up and dance! (All ability levels welcome, no prior experience necessary)

'Finding Tomahna' is a panel surrounding Maxx Hirsch's (Skidmore College '21) Honors Thesis surrounding Myst as a product of American 1990s cultural movements and ideas. This thesis takes the reader through Myst when considering attitudes towards war/violence, new technology, reading, community, and diversity.
