Mysterium 2024 Schedule

Due to unanticipated travel delays, early registration/badge pickup has been cancelled. In exchange, we will open registration at 8 AM on Friday, one hour earlier than previously announced.

Jeff will present the results from many hours spent reverse engineering the original 1993 release of MYST for Mac. The presentation will include:

• A quick summary of HyperCard and Mac OS 9
• Live demonstration of how to open MYST in HyperCard itself
• The "easy" and "hard" way to unlock the MYST stack, so we can view and modify the HyperTalk scripts for the game
• Re-enabling development features in MYST that were disabled before release
• Fixing an old bug that was never fixed before release (opening the music box in Sirrus' bedroom in Mechanical Age)
• And more!

Been in the cavern lately? We'll hear from a group of the fan developers on what's been going on as they make the cavern a safer, more expansive place for explorers.

Once again, Rayne and m13 have summoned forth your neurons with a set of devious puzzles. Grab some friends, a pencil, and plenty of erasers and push through that packet for all the points and glory!

Those pesky brothers did it again, yet another civilization... gone! Atrus, freshly out of patience, has sent them and their greedy selves into prison ages to think, once more, about what they've done. Only this time, their ages seem to have an abundance of magazines, newspapers, and grocery store fliers?

It sounds very strange, but the brothers are ecstatic. What will they write to the family and beloved Stranger to try and be freed? Put on your crafting hats and work as a group to decide.

Exploring the music of the Myst series through dance and creative movement!

We will do some warmup exercises, learn a simple short choreography, and then express our individual creativity through free dance, all in an encouraging and supportive environment.

This is suitable for all ages, genders, and body types. It is open to all ability levels as long as you are medically able to take part in physical activity. No prior experience necessary. Please wear comfortable clothing you can move freely in.

Back again, the Mysterium Unconference gives you the opportunity to define the conversation. The group will decide on a set of participant-driven breakout sessions. Before starting, everyone will have a chance to pitch ideas and vote. We'll then break out and discuss!

Well get in line, Atrus! Catherine got here first, and she needs our assistance with building... something. Surely it'll be more creative than moving a slider or a trap to keep the brothers at bay!

Gather in teams to build something that meets her requirements, deliver a clever presentation, and you could walk away with the satisfaction of Catherine offering you a heartfelt thank you (while Atrus is left waiting in the wings for his chance to ask you for something yet again).

Panelists Meinert Hansen (Senior Art Director) and Guy Sprung (Actor - Achenar) share their experience bringing the worlds and characters of Myst IV to life through visuals, sound, and motion. Topics will include elements of design, character work, and translating ideas into reality in a way that connects with the player on both an aesthetic and emotional level. This event is a can't-miss exploration of how both individual creativity and the teamwork of people with many different talent areas were channeled into the production of the amazing game we know and love.

Mysterium 2024 may be officially over, but there's still fun to be had!

Following Closing Ceremonies, attendees may join unofficial excursions organized by fellow attendees to see some of Montreal's many attractions. Groups may rally in the lobby or outside the hotel before departing.
