Mysterium 2018 Schedule

The full Mysterium 2018 event schedule is listed below. Outside of scheduled events and after-hours, the con room is generally open for freeform socializing, board games, discussion circles, etc. While this schedule is largely considered final, unforeseen changes may occur as we get closer to the convention. If any changes arise, we will make an announcement.

Thursday, August 2

    Mysterium hasn't officially started yet! But, be on the lookout for other attendees who may be arriving and planning activities.

    Come down to the hotel's pool for an informal hangout with your fellow attendees and settle in before the weekend starts.

    Welcome to Mysterium 2018! We'll kick things off with a few words and reminders from our Con-Chair to get you started.


  • Mysterium Un-Conference
    11:00 am - 12:30 pm

    This year sees the return of the un-conference. What is an un-conference? An un-conference is a participant-driven series of breakout sessions where you choose the topics you want to hear about. You'll have an opportunity to pitch discussion topics for participants to vote on. We'll then break up into a few groups and explore those ideas.

    You can also submit ideas in advance using this form.

  • Learn to Make: Games
    2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

    Local game designer and professor, Rob Santos, will walk us through the basics of a Myst-like game using freely available design tools. Aimed at attendees with little to no game design experience, the session will include game design insight as well as resources for those interested in pursuing design.

    In addition to his design and instruction work, Rob is also the Vice Chair of the STL Game Dev Coop, a non-profit group that provides support, resources, and events for local game creators. Rob grew up inspired by the Myst games and attributes the games as a major influence in his imagination and career.

    Seen or heard about Gemedet and Ahyoheek but haven't had a chance to play? We'll have some experts on hand to walk you through playing these D'ni classics.

  • Starry Expanse Update

    Description: Hollister, Sound Engineer and Composer from the Starry Expanse Project, will showcase some of the latest auditory developments and processes from this modern recreation of Riven.

    The City Museum is an eclectic mixture of children’s playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel made out of unique, found objects.

  • Marker Missions

    Part puzzle, part scavenger hunt. Team up and work together to solve a set of puzzles that lead to the locations around the city.

    Random location markers will also be hidden around public areas of the hotel that can be turned in for extra points.

  • Myst Documentary Sneak Peak

    Host: Phillip Shane
    Description: Documentary filmmaker Phillip Shane will take us through the creation of The Myst Documentary. We'll even have an exclusive sneak peak of the documentary for attendees!

    Note: This event will not be streamed or recorded.


  • Wahrk Tank: As Seen On (D'ni) TV!
    3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

    A twist on our classic event, What Would Atrus Do? Our fearless restoration leader, Atrus, has collected a list of struggles that have plagued the citizens of D'ni. To solve their problems, Atrus has amassed a number of gadgets and materials that might be useful for creating a new product.

    Atrus needs your help to design and pitch a product in a fun and entertaining informercial. Do you have what it takes to survive the Whark Tank?

  • Mysterium Showtunes

    Do you like showtunes? Do you like singing? Do you think Disney songs sound better in the original D'ni?

    Alone or with a group of friends, rewrite your favorite song's lyrics to be about our fandom. Choose any topic, from a love ballad between Atrus and Catherine, to Mysterium: The Musical. Then sing it in front of the room.

    Great fun and embarrassment will be had by all!


  • Mysterium Un-Conference: After Hours Edition

    Have burning questions from Friday's un-conference? Or, have some topics you'd like to discuss that wouldn't be suitable for everyone? We'll give you an opportunity to pitch discussion topics for participants to vote on. We'll then break up into a few groups and explore those ideas.

    Note: This is an after hours event and may not be suitable for all attendees.

    How well do you think you know the songs and sounds of the Myst series? Put your skills to the test in our "Name That Sound" game! Our top four participants will move on to compete in a round of Myst Password for the title of Mysterium Game Show Champion.


  • Closing Ceremonies

    Our chance to wrap up the weekend and get some feedback from all of you. Oh, and did we mention the prizes? Grab your tickets because this is your chance to finish the weekend with some great swag.


  • Unofficial Excursion: Forest Park

    St. Louis's Forest Park is an expansive park featuring a train, zoo, science center, history museum, and more. Best of all, admission to most of the park's activities is free!

    After the convention ends, we'll get together and commute over to the park.
