Mysterium 2009 Hotel Announcement

Shorah!

The Mysterium Committee is pleased to announce the hotel that will be used for Mysterium 2009. Due to the interest and attendance typically seen at Spokane Mysteriums, we have decided to use a different hotel this year that is closer to downtown and the airport, and which offers us more space and flexibility in organizing events and activities.

Mysterium 2009 will be held in the University District / Downtown Comfort Inn Suites [ Google Maps ]. (For those who like to use Street View, the hotel appears as the “Shilo Inn Hotel”, as it was just recently bought by Comfort Inn.)

Booking should be done via the hotel’s front desk at (509) 535-9000. Mention the Mysterium group to obtain our group rate and be booked within our room block. You may book a room for up to three days before and after the event using the Mysterium group rate. Rooms reserved under the group rate are $89/night plus tax for up to four occupants. AAA members and attendees in general are encouraged to check for the lowest possible rate; reserving this early may net discounted rates below the Mysterium group rate for individual travelers, but please be aware you will be booked outside of our room block.

Mysterium will be making use of the Pend O’reille (“pond-o-ray”) Room on the 5th floor throughout the weekend. The registration desk will be open officially starting at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 30th. If you are arriving on Thursday, an unofficial registration desk will be open starting at 5:30 PM so that you can pick up your registration packet and more easily meet up with other attendees.

ROOM & RIDE SHARING

The Mysterium Committee once again plans to provide tools for attendees to make room and ride sharing plans with each other. More information about these tools will be made available in the coming weeks. As always, the Mysterium Committee is not responsible for your travel plans or those with whom you choose to room.

TRANSPORTATION

The Comfort Inn Suites offers a complimentary airport/Amtrak/Greyhound station shuttle, which operates 7AM to 11PM. Details for a local attendee-run “shuttle” for anyone needing transportation to or from any of these locations outside of these hours are still being finalized.

  1. I think (/hope) you mean it (Mystrerium 2009) starts at 10AM Friday July the 31st (NOT July 30, as stated above)(?) Otherwise I have to fly in Wednesday…LOL

    • The first official day of events is still Friday. We’re using Thursday as a sort of informal meet-up day, rather than leaving that for Friday, so that we have more time for events. Don’t worry, you won’t miss anything by showing up during the day Thursday :).

  2. Might have missed it, but nowhere on this website can I find the from-through dates for Mysterium 2009. I did see “The registration desk will be open officially starting at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 30th.”

So I called the hotel (Comfort Inn University District/Downtown Spokane, 509-535-9000) to find out.

The hotel says that Mysterium 2009 is booked for attendee arrival on 7/31/09 and departure on 8/2/09.

Mysterium 2009 dates are listed as July 31-August 2nd on the main page and the Mysterium 2009 landing page, however, I’ll adjust the size to make that stand out a little bit more.

The registration desk will be open on the 30th, but events (other than probably an ad-hoc meet & greet on the evening of the 30th for those present) do not begin until Friday the 31st.

Just as a note in regard to that – although the official “dates” at the hotel correspond to the dates of Mysterium activities, the hotel has agreed to honor the group pricing for up to three days before and three days after those dates. Please contact me (Odo) if there are any issue from the hotel with that.

Edit: Fixed my dates… I was in a hurry to post that at the time. 🙂

  3. Umm, maybe I’m seeing things, but the main page title (http://www.mysterium.net/) is “Mysterium 2009: July 30 – August 2, Spokane, WA”, and the Mysterium 2009 landing page (http://www.mysterium.net/mysterium-2009/) has “Mysterium 2009 will be held in Spokane, Washington, home of Cyan Worlds, Inc., from July 30th through August 2nd….”

You’re saying that “Mysterium 2009 dates are listed as June 31-July 2nd on the main page and the Mysterium 2009 landing page….”

Now I’m confused. Which dates are correct?

  4. The convention’s official events are all scheduled to take place from Friday, July 31st through Sunday, August 2nd. However, because of the number of people who arrived a day early last year in Boston, we have extended the opening of Mysterium 2009 “unofficially” to Thursday evening, July 30th. There are no official events scheduled, save for some informal discussions about maybe having a pool party, but the registration desk will be open for pre-registrants to pick up their swag, with the goal being to make it easier for folks to know who has already arrived for pre-convention get-togethers.

I think Odo was typing too quickly, as the dates are nowhere near June. I apologize for the confusion.
